BRIM (Be Real Inside Mentally)

The Vision

Years ago, I was struggling through some of my own personal life issues and was assigned the task of creating a name for a ministry. Initially, I thought the task was too overwhelming and nothing came to mind. Later, I received a divine thought to share the importance of “being real” with whatever was going on in my life; “being real” with whatever feelings are occurring and “being real” with who I am, at that time, and in my life. The end result of the divine thought was the idea “Being Real in Ministry” or “Be Real Inside Mentally” (BRIM). In the scripture of John 2, there is a story of Jesus’ first miracle in which He turns water to wine. He instructs the servants to fill the water pots to the brim and after the servants filled the water pots to the brim, He turns the water to wine. The passage of scripture later mentions the master of the wedding who states that the best wine was saved for last. The water is a representation of nothing; however, after the water pots were filled with the nothing (water) to the brim, it became something (the best wine). In my own life and in my experience as a mental health professional, I have come to realize that total breakthroughs can only occur when there is a full awareness (“being real”) and genuineness (“being real”) and dedication (“being real”). What is “being real”? Being real involves surrendering to your weaknesses without giving up on life. Facing your fears to overcome the fears. Acquiring AND taking action in the steps needed to overcome the barriers to mental wellness, and to live a good quality of life.
